Convener for the Social Justice Movement, Mr. Nyeya Yen, has backed #FixTheCountry campaign organised by some aggrieved Ghanaian youth demanding for government to improve the lives of the citizenry.
The campaign which began on social media is demanding among other things, well-paid jobs, constant water and electricity supply, reduction in fuel prices, infrastructural development from the governing authority.
Speaking on the Maxx Morning Show, Mr. Nyeya Yen stated that the campaign is a worthy cause and should be encouraged.
“I think is a noble idea…this country, people need to get up, just like Rawlings time people had to get up and we have this our limited democracy, during Achampong time people had to get up including myself to have the democracy that we have today. I think we need to build this country and if the young people we should applaud them.”
Organisers of the campaign have set May 9, 2021 for a protest at the countries capital to petition the President, however the Greater Accra regional police command have secured a court order to stop the intended ‘Fix the Country’ demonstration due to the imposition of restrictions on public gatherings and demonstration.
